This resolution commends Tenesia Richards, a healthcare professional and community advocate, who will be recognized by the National Council of Negro Women Queens County Section on June 8, 2025. Richards, a nurse with advanced degrees from CUNY Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and New York University, has made significant contributions to healthcare equity, particularly focusing on maternal health disparities affecting Black women. She established the Health Equity Alliance 4 Life (HEAL) committee at her institution, which received a national Daisy Team Award in 2023, and launched community outreach programs to provide healthcare education and support to marginalized populations. As the Community Outreach Clinical Nurse Manager at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Richards has been instrumental in developing initiatives that bring healthcare providers directly to underserved communities, including asylum seekers and unhoused expectant minority women. She co-founded the New York City Chapter of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in 2024 to collaborate on reducing maternal health disparities, and actively recruits nurses to volunteer and serve their communities.
