This concurrent resolution establishes the K-12 School Safety Task Force to comprehensively study and improve school safety measures in Louisiana. The task force will be composed of 18 members representing various educational, law enforcement, and governmental organizations, including chairs of legislative education committees, representatives from Louisiana State Police, school boards, teachers' associations, charter schools, and other relevant stakeholders. The task force is charged with studying ways to enhance school security, including requiring physical safety assessments every three years, reporting serious school threats to the Louisiana State Analytical & Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE), and examining campus infrastructure and security design plans. The group will produce a written report with recommendations for legislation by March 1, 2026, which will be submitted to the legislature and the David R. Poynter Legislative Research Library. Members will serve without compensation but may receive per diem expenses, and the task force will be staffed by the Senate Committee on Education. The resolution stems from concerns about school safety raised by recent national events and aims to create a collaborative approach to improving security in educational institutions, with the ultimate goals of increasing student attendance, building trust in public schools, and reducing violent incidents.
