Sets forth provisions concerning application for a scholarship and renewals.

AI Summary

This bill establishes a legislative scholarship program by creating a task force composed of 20 members (5 from each legislative chamber appointed by the Speaker and Minority Leader) to administer scholarships for students in Illinois. The scholarships will provide tuition and fee exemptions for students at public universities in the state, with 8 scholarships available per representative district starting in the 2026-2027 academic year. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, residents of the representative district where the scholarship is awarded, and enrolled or accepted at a public university in Illinois. Each scholarship is valid for one academic year (two semesters), and recipients can receive up to 8 semesters of assistance if they maintain satisfactory academic progress. While the scholarship covers tuition and most basic fees, students may still be responsible for certain additional expenses like book rental, laboratory, and medical insurance fees. The task force will manage the application process, determine application requirements, and select scholarship recipients based on their qualifications and submitted documentation.
