This bill directs the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) to grant a permanent access and construction easement to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for a portion of DOT-owned land known as the Greenway in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk County. The easement will allow the MTA to potentially develop a railyard to expand and improve public rail transit in Suffolk County. The easement will be transferred for just one dollar and includes specific conditions: the DOT retains rights to potentially construct a bridge over the Greenway to straighten New York State Route 25A, the MTA must construct any bridge to DOT specifications, both parties must cooperate to ensure their projects can coexist harmoniously, and the MTA must reroute the current pedestrian and bicycle path. The DOT is required to negotiate and execute this easement within six months of the act's effective date. The bill also allows the DOT to consult with other state or local offices to complete this directive. The act is titled the "Furthering Rail Transit in Suffolk County Act" and will take effect immediately upon passage.
