This resolution declares June 5, 2025 as Racial Equity Rapid Response Team (RERRT) Day in Illinois to honor the team's critical work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The RERRT was formed in March 2020 by the Chicago Mayor's Office and West Side United, a collaboration of hospital partners, with the primary goal of addressing high COVID-19 mortality rates in Black and Latinx communities. The team brought together various government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to identify disparities, advocate for resources, and promote health equity. Their significant achievements include partnering with 21 healthcare providers to contact approximately 75,000 patients, establishing testing sites in underserved communities, distributing over 130,000 masks and 13,000 meals, securing $3.1 million in grants, and creating a transparent COVID-19 data dashboard. The RERRT also inspired the creation of six Healthy Chicago Zones and became a model for other cities like New York in addressing systemic health inequities, ultimately demonstrating a comprehensive and collaborative approach to community health during a crisis.
