This resolution honors Leonardo "Flaco" Jiménez, a renowned Tejano accordionist, for his extraordinary contributions to Texas music and his significant impact on the global music scene. Born in San Antonio in 1939, Jiménez grew up in a musical family and began playing instruments at a young age, eventually becoming a legendary accordionist known for blending multiple musical styles including conjunto, zydeco, blues, rock and roll, and country. Throughout his eight-decade career, he collaborated with numerous famous artists like Doug Sahm, Ry Cooder, Dwight Yoakam, and the Rolling Stones, and has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards including five Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship. The Texas House of Representatives formally recognizes Jiménez's role in popularizing Tex-Mex and conjunto music worldwide, acknowledging his exceptional musical talent and cultural influence, and extends him sincere wishes for continued happiness while preparing an official copy of the resolution as a formal expression of their high regard.
