This resolution commemorates the 190th anniversary of the Battle of Goliad, a significant engagement during the Texas Revolution that took place on October 9, 1835. The resolution provides historical context, explaining that the battle was part of the larger Goliad Campaign, during which Texian forces (Anglo residents) resisted Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna's efforts to suppress federalist movements. Led by Captain George M. Collinsworth, approximately 120 Texian soldiers surprised and captured the Mexican garrison at Presidio La Bahía del Espíritu Santo in a brief 30-minute battle, resulting in 3 Mexican soldiers killed, 7 wounded, and 21 taken prisoner, with no Texian casualties. The battle was strategically important because Goliad was located on a critical route between Béxar and Copano Bay, and it symbolized the determination of Texians fighting for independence.
