This bill amends the parks, recreation and historic preservation law to increase the maximum amount of state aid available for snowmobile enforcement from two hundred thousand dollars to three hundred thousand dollars. Under the existing law, the state allocates aid to counties, cities, towns, and villages for snowmobile enforcement based on a percentage of their authorized expenditures, which is calculated against 25% of the state's snowmobile registration fees. The aid is limited to no more than three-quarters of the approved local enforcement expenditures, and no single county (including its municipalities) can receive more than fifty thousand dollars. The bill simply raises the overall cap on state aid from two hundred thousand to three hundred thousand dollars, which could potentially provide more funding for local snowmobile law enforcement and safety efforts. The change takes effect immediately upon passage.
