This resolution commends District 24 State Senator David L. Jordan for his distinguished service in the Mississippi Senate upon his retirement. Jordan, born in 1933 to a sharecropping family in Leflore County, overcame economic hardship and racial injustice to become a science teacher and obtain a master's degree. Since 1993, he has served as a Democratic senator representing District 24, which covers Leflore, Panola, and Tallahatchie Counties, and was an active champion of the civil rights movement. Throughout his tenure, Senator Jordan chaired the Senate Drug Policy Committee and served on numerous other committees, including Agriculture, Education, Finance, and Veterans Affairs. His notable legislative accomplishments include implementing character education in school districts, enacting the Mississippi Blues Bill to promote economic development through music, and passing a retirement package benefiting teachers. The resolution recognizes Jordan's commitment to public service, leadership, and his roles as a father, husband, grandfather, educator, and statesman, extending best wishes to him and his family upon his retirement.
