This concurrent resolution establishes the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Task Force to study and recommend best practices for managing and mitigating the spread of a fatal neurological disease affecting deer and other cervid species. The task force will be composed of 24 members representing state and federal government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private industry, landowners, and wildlife groups. Members will serve without compensation but may receive travel expense reimbursement. The task force's primary responsibilities include evaluating current testing and tracking practices, improving information sharing about CWD cases, identifying monitoring protocols for wild and captive herds, examining containment strategies, and assessing existing regulations. A House of Representatives member will serve as the chairman, and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will provide administrative support. The task force is required to submit a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations to relevant legislative committees before the 2027 Regular Session, with the goal of developing more effective strategies to address this serious wildlife health threat that was first detected in Louisiana in 2022 and poses significant risks to deer hunting and related industries.
