This concurrent resolution continues the Comite River Diversion Canal/Amite River Basin Task Force to address catastrophic flooding issues in the Greater Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area, specifically in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and Ascension parishes. The task force, which has been ongoing since 2014, is authorized to make recommendations to the legislature and relevant state and federal agencies about completing the Comite River Diversion Canal Project, which aims to divert flood waters from the upper Comite River to the Mississippi River at a capacity of 20,000 cubic feet per second. The task force will be comprised of 16 members, including state legislators, government officials, representatives from organizations like FEMA and the Louisiana Home Builders Association, and local stakeholders. Members will serve without compensation but may receive expense reimbursement, and the task force is required to submit recommendations to legislative committees and the David R. Poynter Legislative Research Library. The task force will terminate either upon project completion or by December 31, 2027, whichever comes first, with the ultimate goal of mitigating flood risks in the Amite River Basin and providing transparency to local citizens about flood management efforts.
