This resolution recognizes Sean Norman, a Deaf queer advocate, educator, and community organizer based in Washington, D.C., during the 2025 DC Black Pride celebration. Norman is a Gallaudet University graduate who founded the first ASL (American Sign Language) Kickball team, hosts a queer social night, and serves as President of the D.C. Association of the Deaf. He has worked with organizations like the National Association of the Deaf and the D.C. Mayor's Office of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, and is currently chairing a WorldPride 2025 subcommittee. The resolution highlights DC Black Pride, the world's first Black Pride festival, which has grown to inspire over 50 similar celebrations globally and draws more than 500,000 people from around the world. The 2025 event, scheduled for May 23-26, carries the theme "BLACK PRIDE IS FREEDOM" and continues the organization's mission of celebrating Black LGBTQIA+ identity, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, and standing against homophobia. By formally recognizing Sean Norman, the Council of the District of Columbia celebrates his contributions to building bridges within and beyond the Deaf LGBTQ+ community.
