This bill establishes a temporary practice authorization pilot program for medical professionals (physicians, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses) to practice in federally designated medically underserved areas. Under this program, professionals who are currently licensed in good standing in another U.S. state can receive a temporary 180-day authorization to practice in New York, provided they meet specific requirements. These requirements include obtaining endorsement from a healthcare facility, working in an underserved area, graduating from an accredited school, and being board certified (for physicians). Participants must also commit to living in New York and working for the same entity for at least three years after becoming permanently licensed. The program includes provisions for joint notification to the state department, payment of a fee, and attestation that the applicant meets licensure requirements.
