This resolution creates the Task Force on Southeast Louisiana Regional Water Purification Operations to address drinking water challenges in five parishes (Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, and St. Charles) that have been experiencing periodic saltwater intrusion. The task force will consist of 12 members appointed by various officials, including the governor (who will serve as chairman), the House speaker, parish presidents, the New Orleans mayor, and parish governing authorities, with each member representing one of the involved parishes. The group's primary objective is to study the feasibility of constructing a regional water purification facility, with a specific focus on developing strategies for its operation and management. By March 15, 2026, the task force is required to submit a comprehensive written report of their findings and recommendations to the governing authorities of the involved parishes, their legislative delegations, and the City Services Coalition. The first task force meeting must occur no later than August 1, 2025, with all members appointed by July 1, 2025, and the City Services Coalition will provide staff support.
