This bill aims to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require more transparent labeling of drugs that contain ingredients derived from major food allergens or gluten-containing grains. Specifically, the bill would require drug manufacturers to clearly label any drug intended for human use that contains an ingredient derived from a major food allergen (such as milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or soybeans) or from gluten-containing grains like wheat, barley, rye, and their crossbred hybrids. The label must not only state that the drug contains such an ingredient but also identify each specific allergen or grain type. The new labeling requirement would take effect either on a date determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services or within two years of the Act's enactment, whichever comes first. The goal of the ADINA Act (Allergen Disclosure In Non-food Articles Act) is to help consumers, particularly those with food allergies or sensitivities, make more informed decisions about the medications they take by providing clear and comprehensive information about potentially problematic ingredients.
