This bill establishes the Elder LGBTQI+ Defense and Enhance Resources (ELDER) Task Force, which will be created within 90 days of enactment by the Attorney General, comprised of members from the Elder Justice Initiative and the Division of Civil Rights of the Department of Justice. The task force's primary responsibilities include studying the increased incidence of elder abuse against LGBTQI+ individuals, developing best practices for national, state, and local approaches to combating such abuse, creating educational materials on prevention and response, distributing those materials, and coordinating law enforcement responses. The bill provides comprehensive definitions of both "LGBTQI+ individual" (including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex) and "elder abuse" (which covers physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse of individuals aged 60 or older). Within one year of the Act's enactment, the task force is required to submit a progress report to the Judiciary Committees of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, detailing their work in addressing elder abuse within the LGBTQI+ community.
