This bill creates a new special vehicle registration plate to honor members of the United States Armed Forces who served during Operation Inherent Resolve (a U.S. military operation in Iraq and Syria that began on June 15, 2014). Eligible individuals can apply to the secretary of state for a unique registration plate that will display a special vignette and have "Operation Inherent Resolve" inscribed beneath the registration numbers. The application process requires proof of service during this operation, and there will be no additional service fee for obtaining or renewing the plate. The special plate can be used on a passenger vehicle, and individuals with disabilities can also receive a disability tab for their plate. The bill specifies that using the special plate on a vehicle other than the one for which it was issued, or by someone who does not qualify, is considered a misdemeanor. The special plate will expire on the vehicle owner's birthday, and subsequent renewals will not require additional proof of service. This legislation aims to recognize and honor military personnel who participated in Operation Inherent Resolve by providing them with a distinctive vehicle registration option.
