This bill, known as the "FLRAA Production Acceleration Act of 2025", authorizes the Secretary of the Army to initiate early production of up to 24 future long range assault aircraft (FLRAA), a new type of military aircraft. The bill aims to expedite the delivery of these aircraft to military personnel, maintain workforce continuity, stabilize the industrial base supporting the aircraft's production (particularly in Texas, Kansas, and other states), and mitigate cost escalation risks. The Secretary of the Army is directed to prioritize program continuity, cost-efficiency, and workforce retention in the tiltrotor aircraft supply chain, ensure that early production aircraft incorporate lessons learned from test evaluations, and maintain design flexibility for future upgrades through a modular open systems architecture and digital backbone. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of the Army to submit a detailed report to congressional defense committees within 180 days of the Act's enactment, describing the implementation plan, industrial base readiness, supply chain coordination, and estimated long-term cost savings and operational benefits of this early production effort.
