This resolution congratulates Andrea Smith, a direct support professional (DSP) from Carbondale who works at ResCare Community Living, for being named the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) 2025 Illinois Direct Support Professional of the Year. DSPs are professionals who assist children and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in living, working, and participating in community activities. ResCare Community Living has provided community services for over 40 years, supporting individuals with disabilities in approximately 2,000 residential homes nationwide. ANCOR, a national advocacy organization with over 2,500 members, received more than 500 nominations for this annual award, and Smith was recognized alongside 53 other honorees during ANCOR's annual conference in San Diego in April 2025. The resolution formally acknowledges Smith's achievement and demonstrates the Illinois House of Representatives' respect for her important work in supporting individuals with disabilities, with the additional step of presenting her a copy of the resolution as a token of appreciation.
