This bill creates the "Equality Ohio" license plate, allowing vehicle owners to apply for a specialty license plate supporting Equality Ohio, an organization that advocates for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and others) visibility and education. When individuals apply for these license plates, they will need to pay the standard registration fees, an additional $10 administrative fee, and a $15 contribution that will be deposited into the state's license plate contribution fund. The Equality Ohio organization will receive these contributions to support its mission of advancing LGBTQ+ visibility and education. The bill specifies that the license plates will display an appropriate logo and words selected by Equality Ohio representatives and approved by the motor vehicle registrar, and will include standard county identification stickers. This legislation amends existing sections of the Ohio Revised Code to establish the process for creating and distributing these specialty license plates, following the model of other specialty license plates that support various charitable and educational organizations in the state.
