AI Summary

This bill aims to enhance legal protections and awareness around human trafficking by introducing several key provisions. The bill creates two new criminal offenses: sex trafficking in a school zone and labor trafficking in a school zone, which are classified as class A-II felonies when committed in or near school premises during school hours or at school-related events. The legislation also amends multiple existing laws to incorporate these new offenses, updating definitions, sentencing guidelines, and registration requirements across various legal codes. Additionally, the bill mandates the posting of human trafficking warning signs in public and private schools, requiring signs that describe penalties for trafficking and are displayed in conspicuous locations. Driver's education courses will now be required to include information about human trafficking prevention, and certain businesses like tattoo studios and parks will be required to display national human trafficking hotline posters. The bill's goal is to increase public awareness, provide stronger legal deterrents, and offer more comprehensive protections for potential trafficking victims, particularly in school settings. The provisions will take effect on January 1, 2026, and apply to offenses committed on or after that date.
