AI Summary
This bill establishes a grant program through the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to provide training in LGBTQIA+ rights for school counselors and school social workers. The bill first defines LGBTQIA+ as encompassing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and any other nonheterosexual or noncisgender orientation, identity, or expression. Under the proposed legislation, DPI will award grants to school boards to support training programs that have been either developed or approved by the department, specifically targeting school counselors and school social workers employed by those boards. The bill allocates $2,000,000 for these grants in both the 2025-26 and 2026-27 fiscal years, and will take effect on the day after publication, or on the second day after publication of the 2025 biennial budget act, whichever is later. The goal of the legislation appears to be enhancing understanding and support for LGBTQIA+ rights and experiences within school support staff.
