This bill amends Section 7312 of Title 35 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to modify the organization and emergency communications responsibilities of the state emergency management agency. Specifically, the bill updates the agency's communication coordination duties to explicitly include sharing information and emergency notifications with offices of the legislative branch, in addition to existing partners like the National Weather Service, state police, and local emergency management coordinators. The bill also establishes two new provisions: first, that the agency will maintain an integrated communications system for weather advisories, warnings, and emergency preparedness functions, and second, that the agency will create a dedicated statewide telephone number that legislative branch offices can use to directly communicate with the agency during weather emergencies. This clarifies and expands the agency's communication protocols and ensures better coordination between emergency management services and the legislative branch. The bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment.
