This bill creates the Ohio Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force, a diverse 24-member group appointed by the Governor to develop a comprehensive plan for expanding and supporting local and organic food systems in Ohio. The task force will include representatives from various state departments, different types of farmers (dairy, meat, vegetable, grains, specialty crops), food processors, distributors, educational organizations, farmers, community groups, and other stakeholders. The group is charged with developing a detailed report within two years that will explore obstacles to local food production, land preservation opportunities, farmer training programs, financial incentives for farmers transitioning to organic production, strategies for improving food accessibility, infrastructure development needs, support for new food-related businesses, market expansion opportunities, public education strategies, and legal barriers to local food production. The task force will aim to provide policy and funding recommendations to the General Assembly, with the group automatically dissolving after submitting its report. The goal is to create a comprehensive roadmap for supporting and growing Ohio's local and organic food ecosystem, with particular attention to underserved communities and emerging agricultural opportunities.
