This bill modifies the existing Pennsylvania law regarding vehicle registration exemptions for farm vehicles by expanding the allowed driving distances for different types of farm vehicles. Specifically, the bill increases the maximum distance farm vehicles can travel from their original location for various purposes such as moving between farm parts, traveling between farms, or going to businesses for buying supplies or getting vehicle repairs. For Type A farm vehicles (with a gross vehicle weight rating not exceeding 10,000 pounds), the allowable distance is increased from 50 to 100 miles for most travel scenarios. Similarly, Type B farm vehicles (with a gross vehicle weight rating between 10,000 and 17,000 pounds) see distance increases from 25 to 50 miles for some travel and from 25 to 100 miles for vehicle repair trips. Type C farm vehicles (without a current inspection certificate) have their travel distances expanded from 10 to 20 miles between farms and to 20 miles for supply purchases, and from 25 to 50 miles for vehicle repairs. Type D farm vehicles (with a current inspection certificate) can now travel up to 100 miles for various purposes. The bill maintains requirements for a biennial certificate of exemption and minimum liability insurance coverage, while continuing to allow farm vehicles to operate primarily during daylight hours.
