This bill modifies Michigan's fishing regulations by updating the rules for fish possession limits. Specifically, the bill changes language to be more gender-neutral by replacing phrases like "his or her" with "the individual's" and clarifies the conditions under which individuals can possess multiple days' worth of fish. The bill allows individuals to possess an additional two days' worth of fish outside their residence if those fish are processed through canning, smoking, drying, or freezing. Furthermore, the bill permits individuals to keep an unlimited number of days' worth of processed fish within their own residence. The bill also specifies that processed fish on a vessel or at dockside are considered to be in the individual's possession. The existing prohibition on possessing illegally taken fish remains in place. These changes are part of an amendment to the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, specifically updating section 48721, which was previously amended in 2018.
