This bill establishes a Teachers' Classroom Supply Savings Account Program in Texas, which will provide each eligible teacher with a $1,000 grant annually to purchase classroom supplies. To be eligible, a teacher must be employed by a school district or open-enrollment charter school, teach at least four hours daily in an academic or career and technology setting, and hold proper certification. The comptroller will manage an online account system for teachers to access the grant, and teachers can only spend the money on classroom supplies for their school. Unspent grant money can be rolled over to the next school year for either additional classroom supplies or professional development costs. Teachers must keep receipts for purchases for two years, and the comptroller will develop rules to implement the program.
