This bill, known as the Military Learning for Credit Act of 2025, allows veterans to use their existing educational assistance to pay for specific examinations and assessments that can help them earn college credit. These covered examinations include DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, the National Career Readiness Certificate exam, and other similar assessments, as well as portfolio evaluations by colleges that demonstrate a veteran's prior military training and learning. Veterans can use their educational assistance to cover the costs of these exams, with a maximum limit of $500 or the actual cost of the examination, whichever is less. The bill specifies that the months of educational assistance used for these exams will be calculated based on the exam's cost and the veteran's monthly assistance rate. Importantly, using educational assistance for these exams will not affect the veteran's other educational benefits, such as those provided by the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program. The bill applies to various types of veterans' educational assistance, including those outlined in multiple chapters of Title 38 of the United States Code, and is designed to help veterans more easily translate their military experience and training into academic credentials.
