This resolution establishes a Select Subcommittee within the House Judiciary Committee to investigate the remaining questions surrounding the events of January 6, 2021. The subcommittee will consist of up to 8 members appointed by the Speaker of the House, with no more than 3 members appointed in consultation with the minority leader. The subcommittee is authorized to conduct a comprehensive investigation into matters within the Judiciary Committee's jurisdiction related to January 6, but is prohibited from holding legislative markups. The chair can issue subpoenas, take depositions, and recognize members and staff to question witnesses for extended periods. The committee can receive information from the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, subject to congressional reporting requirements. The Committee on House Administration must transfer relevant records to the subcommittee within seven days of the resolution's adoption. The subcommittee is required to submit a final report to the Judiciary Committee by December 31, 2026, and will terminate either 30 days after filing the report or at the end of the 119th Congress, whichever comes first. The chair and ranking minority member of the Judiciary Committee will serve as ex officio members without voting rights.
