This bill amends Michigan's Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to strengthen protections for hunters and anglers by prohibiting actions that intentionally interfere with or obstruct lawful hunting and fishing activities. The bill expands existing law by explicitly outlining specific prohibited behaviors, such as deliberately disturbing animals, blocking or harassing hunters/anglers, using technological devices or stimuli to disrupt hunting/fishing, creating barriers to hunting/fishing areas, entering private property without permission, and critically, adding a new provision that makes it illegal to photograph, videotape, or record an individual who is lawfully hunting or fishing with the intent to harass them. Violators can be charged with a misdemeanor, facing potential jail time (up to 93 days for a first offense, up to one year for subsequent offenses), fines ranging from $500 to $2,500, and mandatory revocation of hunting/fishing licenses. The law does not apply to peace officers performing their official duties. The bill aims to protect hunters and anglers from deliberate interference and ensure they can pursue their legal recreational and subsistence activities without harassment.
