The bill also mandates that online challenge portals reject anonymous submissions and include information about challenge restrictions. Furthermore, the legislation establishes both civil and criminal penalties for improper challenges, allowing aggrieved voters to seek compensatory and punitive damages, and creating criminal penalties of up to 6 months imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine for knowingly submitting false challenges or providing false information intended to prompt a challenge. These provisions aim to protect legitimate voters from harassment and prevent frivolous or politically motivated attempts to remove people from voter registration rolls, thus helping to maintain election stability and voter access.
