This bill amends the New York arts and cultural affairs law to require ticket operators to clearly display the scheduled start time of a motion picture on tickets. The bill defines several key terms, including "ticket operator" (the entity responsible for ticket content), "ticket" (a license to enter a theater and attend a specific movie screening), "theater" (any venue screening a movie), and "motion picture" (a series of images creating the impression of motion). The legislation mandates that tickets must conspicuously show the movie's start time, and allows ticket operators to also include start times for previews and promotional content, as long as those times are clearly labeled separately. To enforce compliance, the attorney general can impose a civil penalty of up to $250 per screening that violates these requirements. The bill will go into effect 90 days after becoming law, giving ticket operators time to adjust their practices to meet the new disclosure requirements.
