This resolution commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro), a public transit agency serving the Austin area. Created by public vote in January 1985 and beginning operations on July 1 of that year, CapMetro is funded partly by a one percent sales tax and covers a 549-square-mile service area including Austin and several surrounding communities. The resolution highlights CapMetro's comprehensive transit options, which include fixed-route buses, park-and-ride services, bike-share, paratransit, and a hybrid rail system, with an impressive daily ridership of approximately 90,500 passengers using a diverse fleet of 416 buses, 55 rapid vehicles, 10 diesel electric trains, and other transportation resources. Recognizing CapMetro's mission to provide innovative, reliable, safe, and environmentally sustainable mobility options, the Texas House of Representatives formally commemorates the agency's 40th anniversary, extends best wishes for continued success, and resolves to prepare an official copy of the resolution as an expression of high regard.
