AI Summary
This bill modifies Michigan's liquor control law by updating definitions related to brands and introducing a new provision for multibranded products. Specifically, the bill clarifies the definition of "brand" to mean a word, symbol, or combination used by a supplier to identify a specific alcoholic beverage product, with nuanced rules about when a company's legal or trade name can be considered a brand. The bill also introduces a new requirement that when a supplier registers a multibranded product (a beverage containing brands from two or more suppliers), they must officially appoint the wholesaler(s) who have distribution rights for the underlying brands. This change aims to provide more clarity and structure in how alcoholic beverages are branded, identified, and distributed within the state. The bill is tied to another piece of legislation (Senate Bill 512) and will only take effect if that companion bill is also enacted. The modifications are part of Michigan's ongoing efforts to regulate and manage the alcoholic beverage industry within the state.
