The group is required to hold at least three public hearings across New York State (in New York City, western New York, and upstate eastern New York) and will produce a preliminary report after one year and a final report after two years, including potential legislative proposals. Members will serve one-year terms without compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses, and they will have the authority to request studies and information from state agencies. The task force will be supported administratively by the Office of Victim Services and will automatically dissolve two years after the bill becomes law.
