This bill amends the Michigan vehicle code to modify special registration plate provisions for military members. The bill expands eligibility for special military registration plates to include current active duty service members in addition to those who have retired or received an honorable discharge. The registration plates will continue to display an appropriate military-related vignette and the words "national guard" for National Guard members. The plates will be issued without a service fee and will expire on the vehicle owner's birthday. The bill clarifies that using these special plates by an unauthorized person is a misdemeanor. Importantly, the changes aim to recognize and honor current and former military service members by providing them with distinctive vehicle registration options that reflect their military service.
