It mandates that these maps be updated within 5 years of the National Spatial Reference System 2022 completion and be spatially accurate according to geographic information system protocols. The bill also requires the coordination with the U.S. Geological Survey to maintain and improve stream flow networks by ensuring stream gage stations are operational, adding new stations in high-risk areas, and increasing data transmission speeds. Additionally, the bill directs the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to create a public online geospatial data repository that provides comprehensive flood risk information, including mapping data, flood zones, and related risk assessments. The legislation further stipulates that FEMA must verify map data at least every 5 years and follow qualifications-based selection processes when contracting for mapping and surveying services. To support these efforts, the bill allocates 5 percent of certain insurance revenues to create and maintain up-to-date flood insurance rate maps.
