This resolution honors the life and service of United States Army Air Forces Corporal Glenn Hodak, a World War II veteran from Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Born on March 17, 1922, Hodak enlisted in the Army Air Forces and served as a tail gunner in the 93rd Bombardment Squadron, flying a B-29 Superfortress Bomber nicknamed "Tall in the Saddle" during the Great Tokyo Air Raid on March 10, 1945. During this mission, which involved 300 B-29 bombers dropping 1,700 tons of incendiary bombs on Tokyo, Hodak and his crew were shot down and became prisoners of war. Tragically, Hodak and other servicemen perished in the Tokyo Prison Fire in May 1945. For over 80 years, his remains were unidentified and interred at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines. In April 2022, scientific analysis using dental records and anthropological methods successfully identified Hodak, and his family was notified in September 2024. The resolution honors his sacrifice, expresses condolences to his loved ones, and acknowledges his upcoming return to Pennsylvania, where he will be buried in Spring Creek Cemetery alongside his mother and two brothers.
