This bill, known as the Thriving Community Gardens Act, amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to expand the use of Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants to include developing and maintaining school and community gardens. Specifically, the bill modifies existing law to explicitly allow grant funds to support healthy, active lifestyles by enabling schools to create and maintain gardens as part of their nutritional education and physical health programs.
