Born in Guangdong, China in 1934, Lee immigrated to the United States at age 16 and became a significant figure in Chicago's Chinatown, co-founding Golden Country Oriental Foods and serving in various leadership roles such as president of the Chinese American Development Corporation and the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce. Throughout his life, Lee made substantial contributions to his community, including helping develop Chinatown Square, establishing parking facilities, supporting the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, and serving as a commissioner of the Chicago Park District and a member of the Chicago Board of Education. He received numerous awards recognizing his philanthropy and community service, including lifetime achievement and community visionary awards. The resolution, passed by the Illinois House of Representatives, extends sincere condolences to his family and friends, acknowledging Lee's lasting impact on the Chinese American community in Chicago and his generosity in supporting cultural, educational, and community development initiatives.
