This bill modifies Pennsylvania's vehicle code to provide a fee exemption and processing fee for certain retired individuals when obtaining or renewing driver's licenses or identification cards. Specifically, individuals who are retired and receiving Social Security or another pension, and whose total annual income does not exceed $29,906, will be exempt from standard license/ID card fees. Instead, they will be required to pay a reduced processing fee of $12. The income threshold will be automatically adjusted each January 1st to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), with the new maximum income amount rounded to the nearest whole dollar and published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin. The bill aims to provide financial relief for low-income retired individuals while still covering the administrative costs associated with issuing driver's licenses and identification cards. The provisions of this bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment.
