This bill modifies the law governing sergeants at arms and assistant sergeants at arms in the Michigan legislature, expanding their law enforcement powers and jurisdiction. The bill allows each house of the legislature to commission sergeants at arms as police officers with the ability to enforce rules and laws, with specific jurisdictional boundaries. These officers can now enforce laws in the capitol building, legislative office buildings, legislative meeting locations, parking areas, and adjacent areas. The bill also requires periodic reporting to standing committees about the activities and security operations of these officers, ensuring transparency and oversight of their expanded responsibilities.
