This bill modifies the town charter of Avon to change how the town clerk position is selected, transitioning from an elected to an appointed role. Specifically, the bill removes the existing section about the town clerk from Article III of the town charter and adds a new section to Article IV that allows the select board to appoint a town clerk for a three-year term. The appointed town clerk will have traditional responsibilities including maintaining town records, keeping vital statistics, administering oaths, serving as clerk of town meetings, issuing licenses and permits, and managing elections. The current elected town clerk will continue to serve out their existing term, and upon expiration of that term, will become the first appointed town clerk. If the current town clerk leaves office before their term ends, the elected position will be immediately abolished and replaced by an appointed position.
