This bill amends the Public School Code to require school district boards to determine whether any school bus or school vehicle stop is within 300 feet of a residence of an individual convicted of certain sexual offenses, as defined in Pennsylvania's criminal code. If such a stop exists, the school board must notify parents or guardians, explaining the proximity to a convicted sexual offender's residence and providing a mechanism for parents to request an alternate stop. Parents must submit such a request within 30 days of receiving the notice, and the school board is then obligated to establish a new stop at least 300 feet away from the offender's residence within 30 days of the request. The bill defines "school bus" and "school vehicle" according to existing Pennsylvania vehicle code definitions. This legislation aims to enhance student safety by giving parents the ability to request alternative transportation stops if they are concerned about proximity to a registered sexual offender's home. The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage.
