This bill modifies regulations concerning physician supervision for the administration of contrast agents used in medical imaging, specifying different levels of supervision for registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), radiographers, radiation therapy technologists, nuclear medicine technologists, and radiologist assistants. For RNs, radiographers, and technologists, "direct supervision" means the physician is present at the location where contrast is administered, while "general supervision" means the physician is readily available for consultation but not necessarily present at the location; in cases of general supervision, a qualified healthcare provider trained to recognize and manage adverse reactions must be present. LPNs are permitted to monitor patients for reactions to contrast but are explicitly prohibited from administering it, and their supervision follows similar direct and general models. Radiologist assistants, who can administer contrast media, will now be subject to either "on-site supervision," where the supervising radiologist is physically present at the location, or "remote supervision," where the radiologist is readily available for consultation but not physically present; similar to other roles, remote supervision requires a qualified healthcare provider to be present at the administration site. The bill also clarifies that all parties involved in contrast administration or managing adverse reactions must adhere to institutional treatment guidelines.
