This bill changes the composition of the select board (a local governing body) in the town of Berlin, Massachusetts, by establishing that the board will now consist of five members who are elected at large by the town's voters. At the first annual town election after the bill takes effect, three select board members will be elected with staggered terms: the candidate receiving the most votes will serve a three-year term, the second-highest vote-getter will serve a two-year term, and the third-highest vote-getter will serve a one-year term. After this initial election, subsequent board members will be elected to standard three-year terms. The bill will go into effect immediately upon its passage, and it overrides any existing local or state laws that might previously have governed the select board's composition.
