This resolution recognizes and honors Lawrence Moten, a native of Washington, D.C., for his remarkable life achievements in athletics and community service. Born in 1972, Moten was a standout basketball player at Archbishop Carroll High School and Syracuse University, where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,334 points. He was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995 and played professionally in the NBA, Continental Basketball Association, American Basketball Association, and internationally. After his playing career, Moten transitioned to coaching and mentoring, serving as an assistant coach at Gallaudet University and working in youth development at Digital Pioneers Academy. The resolution highlights Moten's significant contributions not only as an athlete but also as a humble and dedicated community leader who inspired young people in his hometown. Tragically, Moten passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 53, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence and community service.
