This bill, the Safe Pregnancy, Delivery, and Postpartum Care for Youth at DYRS Amendment Act of 2025, amends the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services Establishment Act of 2004 to ensure that pregnant youth in the care of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) receive comprehensive healthcare. DYRS will be required to offer pregnancy testing to all youth who may become pregnant upon admission or when medically necessary, and upon confirmation of pregnancy, the youth will be informed of their rights and the department's policies. The bill mandates that DYRS provide pregnant and postpartum youth with confidential, timely, and culturally appropriate medical care from licensed maternal healthcare providers in the District, including care for pregnancy-related conditions, specialized treatment if needed, and a postpartum visit within 12 weeks of birth. Furthermore, DYRS must offer counseling on family planning, prenatal education, birth control, test results, and perinatal mental health, and provide necessary medical supplies, including those for breastfeeding, and medically recommended diets at no cost to the youth.
