This bill amends the Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007 by requiring the Deputy Mayor for Education to submit a comprehensive report within 12 months of the bill's enactment. The report must accomplish four key objectives: first, develop a clear definition of work-based learning that specifies which activities and experiences qualify for high school student credit; second, create a proposal for providing financial incentives to employers who participate in work-based learning programs; third, develop a plan to mandate that all high school students complete at least one work-based learning program or direct experience as part of citywide graduation requirements by 2035; and fourth, identify any challenges in coordinating work-based learning opportunities across government agencies. The bill is designed to enhance students' practical experience and career readiness by integrating workplace learning into the educational framework, with a long-term goal of ensuring that every high school student gains real-world work experience before graduation. The act will take effect after mayoral approval, congressional review, and publication in the District of Columbia Register.
