This bill establishes the Nurse Education Capacity Expansion Grant Program within the Department of Community and Economic Development to help nursing education programs increase their student capacity. To be eligible for grants up to $500,000, nursing programs must be state-accredited, have been operating for at least three years, maintain a graduation rate of at least 70%, have a nursing licensure exam (NCLEX) pass rate of at least 80%, demonstrate an 80% job placement rate for graduates, and possess appropriate training facilities and educational competencies. Grant funds can be used for various purposes including hiring new full-time or part-time faculty, adjusting faculty compensation to attract and retain instructors, providing faculty development scholarships, and improving clinical partnerships and preceptorship programs. The Department of Community and Economic Development will develop a standard application process and prioritize grants for programs serving underrepresented student populations or underserved communities. The act will take effect 60 days after its passage.
